balance and optimal levels of health and fitness in their lives. John
and his clients honor the undeniable importance of fitness and health

This blog focuses on sharing his own experience as a fitness
professional and his pursuit of fitness career advancement both for
himself and for his colleagues.
John has appeared regularly since 2007 on NBC 15 in Madison WI with
news anchor Leigh Mills where he delivers a regular fitness segment

Prior to starting
The
Fitness Nomad in 2004, John worked in Preventive Cardiology
at the
University of Wisconsin Hospital
where he trained people diagnosed with or at risk for developing heart
disease and diabetes.
John was instrumental in developing a
unique program at UW Health designed to reverse Type 2 diabetes.
John has also worked as a clinical exercise physiologist for
Dr. Dean
Ornish’s Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito
and San Francisco, California, where he coached people as part of a
multi-disciplinary team through the implementation of significant
lifestyle changes designed to prevent the progression of both heart
disease and cancer.
While in San Francisco, John also worked as a research exercise
ehysiologist at the
University of California, San Francisco Medical
Center.

During college, John was an All-American Soccer Player and on his way
to becoming a professional. However, following several knee surgeries,
he re-focused his professional pursuit, and began working with
individuals on improving their overall physical fitness and well-being,
as well as those interested in lowering their heart disease and
diabetes risk. John also has experience working with individuals
recovering from, and trying to prevent injuries, especially back and
knee injuries.
John received a B.A. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from
St.
Mary’s College in northern California, and an M.A. in
Movement Science with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology from
San Jose
State University in San Jose, CA.
He holds certifications as an Exercise Specialist from the
American
College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Strength and
Conditioning Specialist from the
National Strength and Conditioning Association,
and of course, Basic Cardiac Life Support with the
American
Heart Association.
