John Ashworth, MA, CSCS, Owner of The Fitness Nomad is a Licensed Corporate Health Coach and Personal Trainer with more than 14 years experience helping his clients get results.

John Ashworth, is The Fitness Nomad...

John Ashworth is owner of The Fitness Nomad in Madison and Middleton, WI where he works with individuals, business executives, and groups looking for more balance as well as optimal levels of health and fitness in their lives. Clients of The Fitness Nomad honor the undeniable importance of fitness and health as an essential foundation for success in all aspects of their lives. They also realize that this pursuit takes a full commitment, and that having a personal trainer and coach is an essential part of the process.

Prior to starting The Fitness Nomad more than 3 years ago, John worked in Preventive Cardiology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital where he trained people diagnosed with or at risk for developing heart disease and diabetes. John was instrumental in developing a unique program at UW Health designed to reverse Type 2 diabetes.

John has also worked as a clinical exercise physiologist for Dr. Dean Ornish’s Preventive Medicine Research Institute in Sausalito and San Francisco, California, where he coached people through the implementation of significant lifestyle changes designed to prevent the progression of both heart disease and cancer.

Madison Fitness Boot Camp

While in San Francisco, John also worked as a Research Exercise Physiologist at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.

During college, John was an All-American Soccer Player and on his way to becoming a professional. However, following several knee surgeries, he re-focused his professional pursuit, and began working with individuals on improving their overall physical fitness and well-being, as well as those interested in lowering their heart disease and diabetes risk. John also has experience working with individuals recovering from, and trying to prevent injuries, especially back injuries.

John received a B.A. in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from St. Mary’s College in northern California, and an M.A. in Movement Science with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology from San Jose State University in San Jose, CA.

He holds certifications as an Exercise Specialist from the American College of Sports Medicine, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a Licensed Corporate Health Coach from Wellcoaches.com (a partner of the American College of Sports Medicine), and Basic Cardiac Life Support with the American Heart Association.
